Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 loaf French bread Or use challah or brioche for a richer texture.
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk Dairy-free alternatives like almond milk or oat milk can be used.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom for extra flavor.
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries Fold in while still frozen to prevent mushiness.
  • to taste Powdered sugar for serving Optional, for garnishing.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the French bread into bite-sized cubes and spread them in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until smooth.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring they soak well.
  5. Gently mix in the blueberries, distributing them evenly throughout the bread mixture.
  6. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour, or preferably overnight.
Baking
  1. When you’re ready to bake, uncover the dish and place it in the preheated oven.
  2. Bake for 45-50 minutes, until the top turns golden brown and the casserole sets.
  3. Serve warm, with a dusting of powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

For best results, use day-old bread as it absorbs the egg mixture better than fresh bread. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
