Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice) Feel free to swap out for your favorite variety.
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth May substitute with chicken or vegetable broth.
Seasonings
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing the onion and garlic.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic; sauté until they turn translucent.
  3. Add the ground beef, salt, pepper, and paprika to the skillet. Cook until the beef is browned.
Assembly
  1. In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom.
  2. Pour half of the cooked ground beef mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle half of the cheese on top.
  3. Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, the rest of the ground beef, and finish with the last half of the cheese.
  4. Pour the beef broth over the entire dish, ensuring moisture so the potatoes cook through.
Baking
  1. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and the potatoes are tender.
  3. Allow it to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding a layer of sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days in the refrigerator or freeze for 2-3 months.
