Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 large sweet onion (Vidalia) Choose a large Vidalia onion for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Substitute with gluten-free flour if needed.
  • 2 large eggs Acts as a binding agent.
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned salt Includes garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, etc.
  • as needed spray Non-stick spray cooking spray Generous spray for perfect crispiness.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for approximately 5 minutes.
  2. Slice the top and bottom of the Vidalia onion. Remove the outer skin and make four deep cuts (but not all the way through) into the onion to create petals.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour and seasoned salt. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs until they are fluffy.
  4. Carefully dip each onion petal into the egg mixture, letting excess drip off, and then coat with the flour mixture. Ensure all petals are covered for the best crispiness.
Cooking
  1. Place the battered onion into the air fryer basket, spray generously with non-stick cooking spray, and air fry for 12-15 minutes, checking halfway through for even browning.
  2. Once the onion is golden brown and crispy, remove it from the air fryer and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For the best results, fully coat the onion with the flour mixture and don't skimp on the non-stick spray. You can experiment with different herbs and spices in the flour mixture for added flavor. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
