  • 1 whole onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup beef broth Use high-quality for best flavor
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce Use gluten-free if necessary
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 pieces hoagie rolls Alternative rolls can be used
  • Sliced cheese provolone cheese (optional) Optional topping
  • Fresh herbs for garnish (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Start by placing the beef chuck roast at the bottom of your crockpot.
  2. Layer the sliced onion and minced garlic directly over the meat.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the beef broth, water, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture over the beef.
Cooking
  1. Cover the crockpot and set to low, cooking for 8 to 10 hours until the meat is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
Assembly
  1. Once done, shred the beef using two forks and stir it with the juices to soak up the flavor.
  2. Serve the shredded beef on hoagie rolls, adding provolone cheese if desired.
  3. Don’t forget the au jus! Serve it in small bowls for dipping alongside the sandwiches.

Notes

Customize flavors with additional herbs or toppings like sautéed mushrooms or jalapeños. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
