Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, drizzle in the olive oil.
- Add the sliced onion and sauté until golden and caramelized, about 10–12 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for another 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef, cooking until browned. Drain excess grease.
- Mix in the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and thyme. Stir until everything is well combined.
- Gently fold in the cooked noodles and 1 cup of French fried onions.
- Transfer the mixture to your prepared baking dish, topping with shredded cheese and the remaining 1/2 cup of fried onions.
- Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, until bubbly and the cheese is golden brown.
- Garnish with chopped parsley before serving hot.
Notes
This casserole can be prepared a day in advance and refrigerated. Additionally, it can be frozen for longer storage. Keep it moist during baking by covering with foil until the last few minutes.
