  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 10.5 oz can cream of mushroom soup Can substitute with cream of chicken or homemade white sauce.
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 cups cooked egg noodles or pasta of choice
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups crispy French fried onions, divided
  • to taste Fresh parsley, chopped Optional, for garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, drizzle in the olive oil.
  3. Add the sliced onion and sauté until golden and caramelized, about 10–12 minutes.
  4. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
  5. Add the ground beef, cooking until browned. Drain excess grease.
  6. Mix in the cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and thyme. Stir until everything is well combined.
  7. Gently fold in the cooked noodles and 1 cup of French fried onions.
  8. Transfer the mixture to your prepared baking dish, topping with shredded cheese and the remaining 1/2 cup of fried onions.
  9. Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, until bubbly and the cheese is golden brown.
  10. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving hot.

Notes

This casserole can be prepared a day in advance and refrigerated. Additionally, it can be frozen for longer storage. Keep it moist during baking by covering with foil until the last few minutes.
