Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced Fresh is preferred, but thawed frozen strawberries can be used.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional) Optional for additional flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, add the sliced strawberries and sprinkle the sugar over them.
  2. Gently toss the strawberries to ensure they are well coated in the sugar.
  3. Allow the mixture to sit for about 15 minutes to draw out the natural juices.
  4. Once the strawberries have released their juices, stir in the lemon juice and vanilla extract, if using.
  5. Serve the sauce warm or chilled over cheesecake, pound cake, or ice cream.

Notes

For a thicker sauce, let the mixture sit longer or cook over low heat for a few minutes. You can mash some strawberries for a rustic texture or leave them whole. Experiment with herbs like mint or basil.
