Ingredients

Bread Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Can substitute with whole wheat flour for a nuttier flavor.
  • 1 packet active dry yeast Use 2 1/4 teaspoons.
  • 1.5 cups warm water Should be about 110°F (43°C).
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk warm water, yeast, and sugar until combined. Let it sit for about 5 minutes or until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter and salt, then mix in half of the flour until it starts to come together.
  3. Gradually add the remaining flour until a dough begins to form.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough into a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot until it has roughly doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) while the dough is rising.
  7. Once risen, punch down the dough and knead in the minced garlic, herbs, and parmesan cheese.
  8. Shape the dough into loaves and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with additional parmesan and herbs if desired.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing.
