Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare an oven-safe baking dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onions and carrots in a splash of oil until softened (about 5 minutes).
- Add the ground beef or lamb, breaking it apart as it cooks for about 7 minutes until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Stir in the minced garlic and frozen peas. Add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, and simmer for approximately 10 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.
- If making fresh mashed potatoes, boil the peeled potatoes until tender (about 20 minutes), then mash with butter and milk until creamy.
Assembly and Baking
- Spread the meat mixture evenly into your baking dish.
- Layer the mashed potatoes on top and sprinkle shredded cheese if desired.
- Bake for around 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat to 165°F (74°C) before serving.
